Winter Florals

Winter florals

Winter brides (particularly December brides) often ask is it possible to style their venue without using any typical Christmas colours or props? Specialising in bespoke styling services, my answer is always YES! Sourcing unique winter wedding inspiration can be harder but here is some inspiration that is free from all festive paraphernalia - The Dutch flowers paintings!

Thanks to a recent trip to London, I had the pleasure of visiting this exhibition to see a close up of these masterpieces. Each painting illustrates Dutch flower varieties arranged wildly, creating wonderful movement to keep the eye amused.

I love their use of colour, with bright blooms contrasting against the dark moody backdrop. These colour palettes and wild arrangements could be beautifully translated into an edgy, modern and romantic wedding style, perfect for the couple who want something less traditional.

Here are more tips on how to take inspiration from the Dutch flower paintings;

Go wild and assymetric with your blooms

Use flowers with an eye for example ranunculus and my favourites the anemones

Don't be afraid to contrast soft hues with dark moody tones

Embrace texture!

Create mood with soft candle light

Use ornate props and luxe textiles eg velvet into your tablescape

Incorporate quirky elements like feathers and berries
